I gave up on dual booting, I currently use a KVM switch and use two desktops. One windows, mostly to play games and a few other things and a Linux Box. I use POP OS.

I finally switched to a local account. I almost feel like this may be a disappearing option. I had to do it via the command line. I have no desire to use the OneDrive. If you setup the OneDrive eventually Microsoft will try to get you to pay for a subscription, which is the last thing I want to have to do. After all who wants to pay a subscription? I used to use my skype account. I would like to install skype but if that is a backdoor to enabling a Microsoft Account, I am not doing it.

Microsoft Account... Have been experienced that nuisance every time I reinstalled my windows 11. It even force me to backup my files to OneDrive sometimes. If it doesn't backup unnecessary files and folders and let me choose by subfolder, I'd not even bother.

I just remove the Internet 🛜 and always lets me local account

after installing windows 11, you will be in the startup press shift+F10 enter "OOBE\BypassNRO" and run it you welcome

Given MS' current attitude about wanting to own my computer, Windows 10 is the last Microsoft OS I will ever use. XP lated for years, and so did 7. By the time 10 is no longer usable, I will be switching back to a good Linux distro for good. Screw Microsoft. They have always sucked, and now, they suck more than ever. Goodbye, Bill.

As someone who actually uses onedrive and other microsoft stuff, the account stuff isnt really all that bad. Its not like I do anything on windows besides gaming anyways, everything important is done on my Mac or Linux laptop anyways.

Every time malicious code gets found into open source it's always the same story: "Damn, that's crazy, is open source even worth it? Is it safe? I'm just saying maybe it was a mistake" If it weren't for open source we wouldn't have found most of the most recent vulnerabilities for years to come. If you don't trust open source then good luck trusting closed source. When people try to virtue signal to open source not being trust worthy it's either for internet points/money, like video click baits (and you can easily spot those out because they never take a fucking stance on anything, even if it costs their life) or the more common reason: they feel uncomfortable when there's a vulnerability, because it affects them directly and they think open source owes them security 100% of the time, for some reason. Which ironically they do provide, there's always a quick fix for vulnerabilities when they surface in open source. The reality is that closed source software probably has way more vulnerabilities than anything open source could ever produce and nobody talks about it, because the only people probably knowing about those vulnerabilities are people who care: the owners or the bad actors, and neither of them have any incentive to talk about there being a vulnerability. If you really think open source is that bad, then stick with Microsoft and co, if I remember correctly they only recently fixed a bug in Windows Update that went on for the whole lifetime of Windows 10 up until recently. Which, by the way, you could argue they pushed that on purpose to make sure your browser always resets to Edge on each windows update. This is not aimed at you directly of course, at least you have an opinion that you voice on how you treat open source, but every time I hear these other stories about how open source is so vulnerable while fence sitting, I feel like I'm witnessing mass brain farts going on scale. Holy shit.

I had to put W10 on our laptop we use for travelling. Turns out my wife hardly ever uses it and when she does it is browser stuff. When W10 fall out of support I'll keep it as a VM and load provably Mint as the primary OS.

Windows is going to be replaced soon enpugh. With the advent of AGI + Open Source, anything is possible (i.e. superior Open Source OS's are possible)

Microsoft loves giving us reasons to use literally any other operating system. The steam deck was a good way to get used to basic linux and i know im gonna be switching on my new pc. If i absolutely need windows i can just use a virtual machine. The only microsoft thing i need is windows media player.

Linux NEEDS to improve its packaging standards and be more user friendly. It's one of the things holding it back from mass adoption. I'm more annoyed with Linux than Microsoft.

Microsoft needs a *class action lawsuit* IF and WHEN they remove local accounts or make it near impossible to do so.
